Hey! Remember in mid-school when
the class went on the outdoor rec trip
to Hermosa, and Tara and Xochitl got
chased by a cow? Remember when
the choir used to go Christmas
caroling? Do you remember how all
the guys shaved their heads after
Jonathan Kaiser did? Or how about
the Halloween parades in elementary
school? Yeah, those were the good
old days. The time of no worries, the
only worries we had were about
having fun.
Most of the senior class has gone to
Bayfield schools almost all of their
lives, others joined in mid school, and
even a few more in high school.
Throughout these last thirteen years
of school the class of 2000 has
grown into a whopping sixty-seven
students. And over the course of
thirteen years most have managed to
stay friends. Friends are the key to
success ... and Growth.
Thanks for all the memories. It's
been real!

The first week back to chool after a relaxing, hot summer is always the hardest
time of the year. The first day in school is usually one of tired eyes, new clothes
and many hugs from friends. Our first week consisted of a first day pep
assembly to get us all thinking about our BHS Wolverine pride, many new faces
of both students and teachers and fresh start. Little was known about the year to
come, but the opportunity to live each day was faced with ambition. By the
second day, the tiredness was gone, work was begun and everyone settled into
the swing of things. We all knew we had many adventures awaiting us for the
next nine months.

Homecoming 1999

'When a loud applause came crashing through the walls of the BHS g}mnasium,
evel)one knew that the 1999 Homecoming festivities were underway. tudent
Council chose the clever theme "The Last Homecoming of the Millenium" to join
the h~pe of the upcoming changing of times. The~ selected theme day and
awarded a prize to eve!) colorlul character who walked through the door. Some o
the themes included: Teacher/Greek day, Hollywood Homecoming, and even a
tropical rendezvous, Hawatian style. Each morning the students conglomerated
into the gym to compete in relays and other creative games. At the end of each
morning, the honor of queen and king for the day was awarded to two lucky
tudents. The halls were adorned end to end after the Advi ory doors had been
decorated. Thursday evening was kicked off with the Peach Fuzz volleyball
tournament. The victory was seized by the wrath of the seniors. The tied-up
Powder Puff game was enhanced by an elegant dance from the graceful
cheerleaders. The night came to an end with a raging bonfire that was held at the
football field. On Friday afternoon the students gathered up and down Mill Street to
observe the parade. Some of the main attraction included: a choreographed
march by the elementary kids, tudent floats, and the candidates for Homecoming
Queen and King. On aturday the games began at 2:00p.m. Every team was
triumphant at pulverizing the Del Norte Tigers. Kinsee Morlan and Isaac Fleener
were crowned queen and king. The night was wrapped up with a dazzling dance in
the BHS cafetorium.

The football team of 1999 was a team filled with hope. Following a few disappointing seasons, the Wolverines had a new
coach and a new outlook. They set their sights on the playoffs. Their first victory came agamst none other than Bayfield s
rival, Ignacio High School. The ending score was 7-6. The confidence earned from th1s first v1ctory gave the Wolvennes
the ability to play an outstanding game against Pagosa H1gh School. Justin Gingerich led his team into the fourth quarter
with two touchdowns. The Pirates would not give up without a fight; they managed to get past our powerful defense and
also scored a touchdown in the fourth. It was a hard loss, but the team still had a little something up our sleeves. At the
end of the 1999 season, they were on their way to the state playoffs! Roanng Fork was a b1gger and more powerful team
matched up against our scrappy, hard-hitting Wolverines. Kelly Greer made the first touchdown and the crowd was
hopeful. However, the sheer strength of the opponent left us with a bench full of hurt players and our freshman
quarterback, Matt Gonzales, battling to get his team back in the game. He threw several beautiful passes, one connectmg
in the end zone to Justin Gingerich, but it was not enough to continue further into the playoffs The younger Wolverines
will miss the leadership of five seniors, however the outcome for next year looks good.

Bayfield Bobcats or Ignacio Wolverines? Bayfield school
district teamed up with Ignacio school district to play ball.
Since soccer is such a new thing for Bayfield there weren't
high expectations. However, the soccer team showed that
they were not going to waste any time losing this year.
With sixteen players from Bayfield, two all-conference
players named Chris Smithwick and Rory Martinez, they
claimed the title of District Champions. The team
dominated over all others. They even got to travel to State
competition. The year turned out great, and next year

Freshman 2003
.....

The freshman class has definitely broken the
mold. This class was the biggest class at
Bayfield High School. With athletes , skaters,
intelligent, and artistic freshmen , this class had
by far the most diversity of all the classes
preceding it. There was hardly a moment
when you didn't see them without a smile on
their faces , or that mischievous twinkle in their
eyes. They made a few mistakes, but they
knew how to laugh and how to make others
laugh as well. The freshmen always knew
when to stop the laughter and occasionally
were serious . There were times when the
freshmen were rowdy, but th~y were an
outstanding class and they will continue to
':
influence future freshman classes to come.

As the school started closing to an end, Mrs. Kimball directed one la t play.
Days of Our School Lives wa a soap opera performed by tudents and taff.
It portrayed a janitor trying to take over the school with the help of the
Engli h nut principal. There were laugh and ah as the actor and actre e
kept spinging surprise on the audience, keeping them on the edge of their
seat. It was a brilliant play that combined wit, amusement, ridicule,
laughter, and the on slaughter of surprises.
