On a fine spring day in 1964 John Bigham, a straight "A" major in
Agriculture at Fort Collins, stands out in his bean field wondering why the
crop failed. He is startled by the smooth purring noise, put-put-clash-bang,
of the amazing new invention, the~ Doodle, Gordon Steele's latest horseless carriage. He gets 20 gallons to the mile, which is really an improvement
over recent inventions. Although he can't understand why the gas gauge always
points at empty.
Gordon stops to chat for a while with John when all at once a
terrific explosion occurs and the roof off of Lee Hiil's ATOMIC BUM PLANT
comes whizzing by. Shortly afterward a big thudll Lee lands from a big~
nearby pine which he met up with in the way over.
Lee rushes to John's ultra-modern, one-room adobe hut to phone to
town to see which way the rest of the plant went. He stammers into the phone,
his face becoming in turn, pink, red, violet, purple, and black as Joanne
Hickman, telephone operator of the A. F. of L. (ah1ays for listening) tells
him to take in the cord, she had too much; she asked him to quit breathing so
loudly, it disturbed her; and, PLEASE, pull back some cord, she can't get the
connection.
Marka Peterson, RN (rat nurse) comes dashing from the new fivestory general hospital, KILL OR CURE, located in the suburb, Smoky I-lesa. She
is loaded dovm vTith Vicks VA.oorub, Aspirin, Sloan's Horse Liniment, Hadacol,
and all of the latest miracle drugs, in case anybody was injured in the
explosion. Marka is considered the best nurse in the Basin. She already has
six, or iQ it seven, notches on her thermometer.
Clark Gilbert, ex-mule driver, ex-truck driver, ex-bus driver, comes
to a screaming stop in his twin bed ambulance. He opens the door, trios and
falls on his face. Straightening his fractured elbo\·T, he asks if anyone is
hurt.
It seems Clark took this job because he got fired from all previous

on~s.

Mason Frazzini, the famou::> S0uth AmPrican ?.ucho, comes limoing-VIhoopsl loping--no lir.iping in on his flaming, firey steed (eats red peppers
and hot tamales). He is the Roy Ro~ers of the Amazon, and he seems to be quite
a card. His pals call him the Kin• of Kings, hce of Jacks, or is it Jack of
Aces? f.1ason has a famous hacienda, the J.iUCHO FERDIN ND, (a lot of bull) in
South America. He come up to ct eck on his L" Boca ranch, the ARID ACRES.

Cecil McCoy, the greatest bullshipper in the Basin, just arrived
to compare notes with Lee on Lee's synthetic cow. It eats green plants,
chlorophyll, you know, with no after affects, (saves cleaning the barn).
Cecil is quite interested in not having to clean the barn. Cecil has just
bought out the Gunnison Valley of Colorado from Governor Thornton. He seems
to have his eye on the Capitol Building. He even took up golfing.
Doris Yoakam, the world famous comedian, humorist, and actress
comes by with dark glasses, white cane, and a tin cup. It seems her last
performances haven't rolled in the dough. Maybe it's understandable as she
is director, script writer, stage hand, and curtain puller for her own show.
Tonight she is appearing at the Bayfield City Opera House in the suburb,
Falfa.
A long streamlined cherry red Cadillac convertible comes to a smooth,
even stop. Derylin Cooper must be in a hurry; she came through the windshield
instead of the door. She always ~ (pardon the e~ression) ~ ~ood driver.
She has just returned from a concert tour witn-3pi e Jonas' ban • Derylin
used to play with the Ink Spots until they were ;radicated.

Mr. Mac is seen p~lling his head out of the glove compartment. His
face is merely white this time, as he is used to it. Mac seems in marvelous
health, in fact he's Glowingl But that was before he coughed up the flashlight. He removes the whisk broom from one ear ~nd a pair of scissors from
the otPer. Mr. Mac gets out smiling as usual. He is acting as Derylin's
tutor.
We all decide to go to the STAINLESS STEELE SPUR, (former Silver
Spur) owned and operated by who else but Gordon, for a chicken dinner. He
is supposed to be the best chicken lifter in the country. And we don't mean
out of the pot 1
There it is, the future of the CLASS OF 1 54
